DAPPCON24: Intents and the Future of DeFi

May 15, 2024

Kinetex Network is now Swaps.io. While the name has changed, the community's commitment to making crypto accessible and borderless remains stronger than ever. Learn more here.

Tigran Bolshoi, one of Kinetex's initial contributors, took the stage at the DAPPCON24 conference on Tuesday, May 21st, to share his insights on the future of DeFi. In his presentation, he explored the ongoing transformation of the Internet and how it is reshaping our digital interactions.

Bolshoi likened the Internet to a vast knowledge repository — comparable to a modern-day encyclopedia. Traditionally, users rely on search engines like Google to find specific information, often entering precise queries and manually sifting through various sources. This process, he explained, mirrors navigating an encyclopedia: scanning a table of contents, reading chapters, and evaluating multiple sources to locate the desired data.

He highlighted how tools such as Siri and other virtual assistants have emerged to streamline Internet interaction. However, their effectiveness remains limited due to the lack of standardization and broad applicability, often resulting in inaccurate or unreliable responses.

To address these limitations, Bolshoi introduced the concept of "intent" as a bridge between humans and AI-powered tools. Intents offer a standardized framework for structuring user requests and validating AI responses. AI agents, operating across multiple domains, can analyze data, respond to queries, and even seek clarification from one another to ensure accurate and effective communication.

Another focal point of his talk was Zero-knowledge (ZK) technology. Bolshoi emphasized its potential to uphold privacy and confidentiality while enabling users and projects to generate requests and validate responses securely. With growing concerns about data privacy among crypto users, ZK-based solutions provide a way to ensure secure and confidential interactions in the DeFi space (and, potentially, in broader digital contexts in the future).

Bolshoi also explored the far-reaching potential of blockchain technology beyond crypto. He noted that blockchain enables decentralized interaction without reliance on a central authority. All transactions and data exchanges are immutable and transparent, yet privacy can still be preserved. This structure enhances security and ensures the integrity of digital interactions.

Finally, Bolshoi discussed the importance of modularity in the evolving digital landscape. Modularity allows for adaptable, scalable systems through decentralized and autonomous development. This approach promotes innovation and enables builders to develop interoperable components that strengthen and enhance one another.

Thank you to everyone who attended the conference and the presentation. See you next time!
